The Lifelong Learning Centre is proud to announce the finalization of the “Strength of Spirit: Supporting Veterans in Sumy Region” project, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive psychological support for veterans and their families in Sumy. This initiative focused on enhancing mental health, fostering effective social reintegration, and improving overall quality of life.

The project encompassed several key components:

  • Psychoeducational Online Courses: A series of online sessions raised awareness among veterans and their support networks about psychological challenges and ways to address them.
  • Specialized Training Programs: Tailored workshops equipped participants with practical skills to manage PTSD and other mental health challenges, strengthening resilience in both veterans and support providers.
  • Individual Psychological Consultations: These sessions offered targeted support to veterans and their families, deepening the project’s impact on their mental well-being.

A major highlight of the project was the informational campaign focused on de-stigmatizing mental health issues. Two essential materials were developed and distributed:

  1. Understanding PTSD: This guide provides practical insights into managing PTSD symptoms and includes essential steps for veterans seeking support (link to the file)
  2. Communicating with Veterans in Need of Emotional Support: A crucial resource for family members, friends, and caregivers, this guide emphasizes empathy and active listening to create a supportive environment (link to the file)

These materials aim to foster greater community understanding and support for veterans’ mental health, encouraging a compassionate approach to conversations about psychological well-being. These materials are welcome to use for helping friends and family, relatives, and those who need them. They could be useful for psychologists, and social workers, and NGOs, general public.

Through this project, we have taken steps toward building a resilient psychological support system that will serve as a reliable resource for veterans and their families, helping them regain inner peace and harmony in their lives.

The initiative “Strength of Spirit: Comprehensive Psychological Support for Veterans and Their Families in the Sumy Region” is implemented by the NGO “Lifelong Learning Centre” with the technical administration of ISAR Ednannia and support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, with financial backing from the European Union provided within the “EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine” project, and financial support from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
