Lecture for Future Psychotherapists on Managing Stress and Coping with Acute Stress Reaction Effects

On January 22, 2025, as part of the collaboration between the NGO Lifelong Learning Centre and Sumy State University, an lecture titled “Managing Stress, PTSD, and the Protocol for Working with Acute Stress Reaction Effects” was held for students of major 053 Psychology.

The lecture was delivered by Halyna Dmytrenko, Head of the Psychological Service at the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans and a partner of the NGO Lifelong Learning Centre.

Participants gained valuable insights and practical advice on working with stress and its manifestations. The key topics covered during the lecture included:

• The emergence and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD);
• Panic attacks and anxiety: how to identify and cope;
• Symptoms of irrational behavior and methods of providing support to avoid retraumatization.

In addition to the theoretical part, attendees had the opportunity to practice helpful techniques, such as:

• Methods for relieving nervous tension;
• Breathing exercises for relaxation;
• Sensory stabilization techniques.

The lecture aimed to raise awareness about addressing stress and trauma-related issues and to develop skills for supporting individuals in crisis situations.

The project “Comprehensive Psychological Assistance for IDPs and Those Affected by War: Materials, Public Lectures, Trainings, and Individual Consultations” is implemented by the NGO Lifelong Learning Centre in partnership with fellows of the Zavtra.UA program.
