Since May 2024, our organization, in cooperation with psychologists from the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans, has begun implementing a project to support the mental health of veterans and their families.
A series of offline training sessions were held, during which project psychologists provided essential knowledge to healthcare workers, emergency response services, and Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCC) staff on caring for war veterans, their families, and other vulnerable populations.
An online psychoeducational course was developed and implemented, consisting of four training modules: I – “Psychosomatics,” II – “Introduction to Veterans’ Mental Health,” III – “Psychological Support for Veterans’ Families,” and IV – “Communication, Support, Resilience.” This course was conducted from May 15 to July 10, 2024, totaling 24 hours. The course became very popular, with around 90 people registering, of which 71 were unique participants receiving this type of training for the first time. Nineteen participants completed all the sessions and received certificates.
As part of the project, individual consultations are being provided to the target audience – veterans and their families. The project will continue until October 15, 2024.
We want to thank the trainers and psychologists with many years of experience working at the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans, who have unique expertise in providing assistance for veterans and vulnerable residents: Viktoria Zelenska, Halyna Dmytrenko, Anna Ruban, and Viktoria Sukhareva.
The “Strength of Spirit: Comprehensive Psychological Support for Veterans and Their Families in Sumy Region” project is being implemented with the technical administration of ISAR Ednannia and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, with financial support from the European Union, provided under the “EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine” project, and financial support from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
