On September 7, 2024, in Sumy, a six-hour intensive training was held for educators, healthcare workers, social service employees, government officials, and anyone who interacts with people who have experienced crisis situations. The event gathered participants eager to enhance their skills in providing psychological first aid to individuals who have gone through stressful or traumatic events.

The training was organized by the NGO “Lifelong Learning Center” within the framework of the project “Strength of Spirit: Comprehensive Psychological Support for Veterans and Their Families in Sumy Region,” with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and financial assistance from the European Union and the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Participation in the event was free, and all participants received certificates upon completion, which are credited within qualification enhancement systems (0.2 ECTS).

The training was led by experienced professionals:

  • Halyna Dmytrenko, a crisis psychologist working at the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans;
  • Viktoria Sukhareva, a psychotherapist, psychiatrist, and psychologist from the same institution.

The training program focused on developing essential skills in psychological first aid. Participants learned how to identify crisis situations and provide humanitarian, supportive, and practical assistance to those affected. Special attention was given to self-regulation and stress management. In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants had the opportunity to practice their skills in real-life scenarios.

The training was held in a comfortable environment, allowing participants to move freely and take convenient positions during relaxation exercises. The venue was also equipped with a shelter in case of air raid alarms, ensuring the safety of all attendees.

Participants highlighted the high professionalism of the trainers and described the event as one of the best offline activities they had attended in recent times. The training not only provided essential knowledge but also strengthened participants’ skills in psychological support, which can be valuable for anyone facing crisis situations.

We sincerely thank all participants for their active involvement and our partners for their support in organizing this important event!
